We have reached the end of the academic year and what an amazing journey it has been here at the Hub! Our Hubsters have thrived through various activities and we are immensely proud of their growth and accomplishments. Here are some of our wonderful Hub highlights from the past couple of weeks and throughout the year. We wish you all a restful summer break.

🥳 ✨PT GRADUATION 2024✨ 🥳

We had a fantastic afternoon celebrating the milestones and successes of our incredible Hubsters from the academic year! With family members proudly in attendance, the ceremony was filled with joy and heartfelt moments. Each student received a certificate to recognise their achievements. We were sad to say farewell to some of our Hubsters who are starting college in September. We are immensely proud of each and everyone of them and excited for their future endeavours. We wish everyone the best of luck 🎓🍀🥰

⚽️🏀🎾 Sports Day 🎾🏀⚽️

We held the first EVER PT Hub sports day! We did relay races, volleyball, rounders and even a bouncy hop race! All the students had great sportsmanship, teamwork skills and amazing resilience and determination! Fun and laughter all around 🙌🏼 we certainly won’t forget it.

Collaborative Wall Mural

Earlier in the year, one of our Hubsters embarked on a magnificent project which has resulted in a complete transformation of our shared space in the Hub. What was a plain blank wall has been decorated in the most creative and impressive way. The collaborative mural, which reads ‘Welcome to the PT Hub’, has been designed so that each letter has been decorated by a different student or staff member. This showcases individual originality and imagination! Just look at the incredible outcome 🌟.

Yoga 🧘‍♀️

We have been so lucky to have @yogawithbells visit us for some yoga sessions – what a relaxing way to start our mornings! The list of the benefits of yoga are endless, but we noticed in particular it improved attention and focus, self-regulation and alleviated anxieties. Thank you Annabelle – we look forward to the next session!

Highlights from throughout the year

World Food Week October 2023

The Hubsters celebrated World Food Day, an annual event that raises awareness about the importance of healthy and sustainable diets and world hunger. One of the highlights was cooking and tasting a variety of international dishes. For instance, the Hubsters made fajitas, Caribbean chicken, spaghetti bolognaise, and chicken korma. Students worked very skilfully, chopping vegetables, mixing marinades, and stirring pans. They were able to learn about different ingredients and cooking techniques, as well as to appreciate the diversity and richness of world cuisines.

Remembrance week November 2023

The Hubsters worked tirelessly on a beautiful Poppy Soldier silhouette. They took some time for reflection and learned about the importance of Remembrance Day and the significance of the poppies. We think it is a lovely tribute to those who work in the armed forces and those we remember. Every child contributed and proved how teamwork and working alongside others can provide stunning results.

Pizza Making Day December 2023

The Hubsters had an absolute blast making wood-fired pizzas to raise money. Our students are amazing cooks and couldn’t wait to deliver them to local businesses. It was a huge success and we raised a total of £130 towards new provisions to support their needs and learning.

Gratitude Journals January 2024

Back at the start of the year, we introduced Gratitude Journals, designed by our very own Hub Manager. Each session we checked in with how Hubsters felt physically and emotionally and learnt how to express gratitude. This helped us to promote positive mindsets. A great way to start 2024!

Hub Plant Hospital February 2024

One of our students showed a keen interest in plants 🌱 so we used that to engage in a cross curricular approach to learning! We set up our very own Hub Plant Hospital, where he checked on sick plants; reading the owners concerns and providing care for them. We hosted an official Grand Opening and were lucky to have a special guest attend, local businessman John Meynell who runs a delightful shop in Finkle Street Richmond, who cut the ribbon with our Hubster ✂️. John was so impressed with our Plant Hospital and shared some of his top tips for nurturing plants. He also presented our Hubster with a beautiful bee hotel gift.

Woodwork March 2024

Earlier in the year, two of our talented Hubsters were lucky enough to learn how to make their very own sword and shield from scratch ⚔️ 🛡️ Guided by the skilled hands of Rod, they learnt how to safely use a coping saw, master the hammer and sand the wood down to leave a smooth finish!

National Art Week April 2024

During National Art Week, we had the incredible opportunity to welcome Safi’s mum into our Hub. She led a captivating watercolour workshop that introduced the Hubsters to the enchanting world of watercolours. Through her guidance, the Hubsters became skilled at various techniques, mastering the art of stretching and blending watercolours to create mesmerising pieces. This experience developed their artistic skills and Hubsters expressed their enjoyment and pride in the artwork they produced.

Pamper Studio May 2024

Pursuing her dream, one of our Hubsters set up her own pamper studio within The Hub. Using some design technology skills including sanding and painting, she created a fabulous nail bar. It has been a busy and popular area of the Hub and one of our new students enjoyed getting her nails done by our very own beautician. This serene area has allowed our Hubster to work on her passion whilst treating other students to some well earned pampering. Positive benefits all around 🥰.

Water Maze June 2024

One of our students decided to build a water maze for the other Hubsters to enjoy. He gathered a variety of resources such as old gutters, pipes and loose parts. Through careful planning, he worked out how to attach the various items, ensuring water could run through each part. Everyone cannot wait to play with it! 🔨💦
