The weeks are flying by, and the summer holidays are just around the corner! As the temperatures have soared, we have certainly been making the most of it by getting outdoors as much as possible. Here are some of the highlights from the past couple of weeks.
Floating and Sinking
Two of our students had a splashing time making their own boats out of different materials and testing them in the stream nearby to see if they would float or sink. They used a variety of materials including bubble wrap, plastic containers, cardboard and paper. They then went onto predict how many rocks each boat could hold before sinking. The results showed that the best boat was made out of plastic. What a fantastic science experiment! We are so lucky to have such a great resource right next to the Hub!⛵️🌊📋
Chalk Mosaics
One of our Hubsters wanted to try out this creative and colourful activity, and so we all did some chalk art outside! Students used masking tape to make a shape and colour in the different sections… they turned out amazing and looked so pretty in the sunshine ☀️💜🧡.
Keeping Cool
What better way to keep cool in the warmer weather 🌞 we got the sprinkler out and our Hubsters had lots of fun running through it to cool off in the sunshine. One Hubster even showed us his push ups in the sprinkler.
Water Maze
One of our students decided to build a water maze for the other Hubsters to enjoy. He gathered a variety of resources such as old gutters, pipes and loose parts. Through careful planning, he worked out how to attach the various items, ensuring water could run through each part. Everyone cannot wait to play with it! 🔨💦
Fun in the Stream
💦 These sunnier days you might find us down by the Beck! Two of our Hubsters enjoyed filling containers with water, creating science experiments, building bridges using large branches, practising balancing skills and splashing around! ☀️
Outside Phonics
🔤 We enjoyed playing games with our focus on sounds outdoors in the sunshine! We played phonics noughts and crosses and beanbag toss to the correct sounds. Learning does not always have to be indoors 🌟.
Getting Active
Getting active is a win-win! Recently we’ve been having a blast with ball games and obstacle courses! Physical movement is more than just fitness; it develops co-ordination, social skills, self-esteem and cognitive development (to name a few!) 🏃♀️🏀 ⚽️.
